Mandatory of Guides and TIMS Card
As per the announcement of changes in the policy from Nepal Tourism Board on 09.03.2023, tourists/trekkers are banned from trekking without accompanied by professional Guides to minimise human and material loss due to serious consequences of high altitude sickness, lost during the trek and natural disasters.Additionally obtaining TIMS Card (Trekking Information Management System) by travellers from authorised trekking agency has been mandatory. The information management system will help travellers to receive fast service during the adverse situations. TIMS Card is not required for an expedition member already having issued mountaineering permits by government of Nepal.
Transportation in Nepal
Ranges of transportation options are available to travel around Nepal. Public transportations like buses, mini busses and micro buses are cheapest means of transportation in Nepal. To travel around Kathmandu valley and nearby destinations, plenty of metered taxi services are available with black license plate and taxi sign on top of the taxi. Mountain bikes, motorbikes and scooters are available for rent from major cities of Nepal like Kathmandu and Pokhara.
You can hire a motorbike/taxi/car ride to travel in Kathmandu using a Pathao app. Recent introduction of online booking of a ride is much more quicker and cheaper than other forms. They will pick up and drop off you at your the exact location.
For faster travel, more than 20 private airlines regularly connect you to different parts of Nepal. You can also always hire a helicopter to travel to any destination in Nepal.
Accommodation and Fooding in Nepal
Accommodation
With the increasing number of tourists and growing of tourism industry in Nepal, accommodation facilities are advancing as per the need of customers. There are large numbers of hotels available ranging from 5 star to simple hotels and backpacker hostels. Different categories of hotels from international standards to budget hotels are available in different parts of Nepal. However, mostly basic lodges and guest houses are available in the rural mountain regions of trekking.
Most of these accommodations have maintained standard of cleanliness and equipped with electric plugs for charging your electrical equipments. Electricity is accessible in most of the places of Nepal but several hours of electric cuts are to be expected in the monsoon season. Lodges in the mountain region do have clean toilet and bathroom facility but hot water for shower may not be available depending on the type of lodge. Due to the increasing tourism trend, hotels and lodges in many remote areas are highly upgraded with modern facilities like hot solar shower, attached bathroom etc. However, due the nature of place, we recommend you to expect basic facilities and services in the mountain regions of Nepal.

Fooding
Large numbers and varieties of restaurants are available in the touristic areas like Kathmandu and Pokhara with choices of both Nepalese and international meals. These places offer excellent dining and wine choices ranging from traditional Nepali dishes to continental cuisines.
Even during your trekking tour in the mountain regions of Nepal, varieties of international meals are included in their menus. Menus in the trekking regions are only 20% Nepali dishes and 80% international dishes. Regions are fully aware of type of food tourists prefer and enjoy. However, we also do recommend you to try typical Nepali dishes.Vegetarian meal options are available throughout your trekking tour. However, non vegetarian meals are subject availability and may not be available in the mountain regions of Nepal.
One of the most popular typical Nepali cuisine is called Dal Bhat, available everywhere in Nepal. Dal is lentil soup and Bhat is steamed rice, served with Tarkari (collection of various vegetables). Second popular cuisine in Nepal is called Mo-mo. Mo-mo is dumplings filled with minced meat usually buff or chicken served as starter as well as main dish. Most commonly found drink in Nepal is Raksi, which is traditional wine made from millet or rice. Raksi is very strong and contains high % of alcohol, therefore we recommend you to just try one or two glasses.
During the trekking tour
- Normally voltage throughout Nepal is 220 volts/ 50 Hz altering current and in the cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, all internationally fitting plugs are installed, however in the mountain regions, it is recommended to carry an adapter as the plug might not match.
- Electricity is not available in the mountain regions of Nepal and you are recommended to sufficiently charge your devices where electricity is available. Solar power is also installed in the remote places where electricity is not available and you can charge you devices, however, they might charge you for this. Charging fess are not included in the tour price.
- Fire wood is very limited during the trekking tour due to the lack of wood in the mountains. Heating system in rooms and dinning areas are not available in most of the places rural trekking regions of Nepal. However, some lodges do offer fire heater in winter and most lodges in mountain tend to use fire oven to cook food. Therefore it is recommended to equipped with good sleeping bag and warm clothes.
- During the trekking tour, you are expected to receive simple, practical and basic facilities only. Rooms are normally either twin sharing and double with wooden bedsteads and simple foam mattress. WC and washing facilities are located outside of the rooms and in rare cases you might find attached bathroom. How solar shower is available in most of the lodges but you can always order boiled hot water for shower with a charge, if solar shower is not available. Rooms are normally divided by wood partition and not sound proof. Dinning areas are kept heated by fire wood in the evening in winter.
Flight cancellation
Due the adverse weather conditions, flight delays or cancellations are often expected. During this conditions, you will need to wait until the weather recovers for further flights to resume. Sometime waiting time can be even several days and you need to be prepared for such situations. Where possible, it also recommended to take alternative means of transportation like jeep or local bus. Please retain your flight ticket and submit to our agency and you will be provided refund for the ticket price.
Concerns during your stay in Nepal
Nepali is the country of one the friendliest peopled hospitality and you will always experience greetings and smiles from the locals, However, you should be aware of following things:
- Always ask for the permission before taking picture of anyone.
- In the remote areas, you should avoid wearing stylish clothes and try to cover shoulder and legs if possible.
- Remove your hat or cap when entering into chapel or religious establishments.
- Avoid kissing and hugging in public, specially in religious sites.
- Do not touch ritual offerings and statue of buddha in the monasteries.
- Leave the camp site cleaner as it was before.
- Keep local water sources and environment clean.
- Do not leave any rubbish in the mountains.
Porter and luggage
Normally one porter carries luggages of two travellers and it will be easier to bind two luggages together, therefore its packing trekking stuffs in a trekking bag is very convenient. The luggages are carried with a band across the forehead. Using the band will share the weight luggages by both head and shoulder, which is very common in Nepal.
One person’s baggage should not weight not more than 12-13 kg and in total not more than 25 kg per porter so that porters do not suffer during the trekking tour. You can save weight by leaving unnecessary items in Kathmandu securely with us.
